Ngarra
Born circa 1920, Glenroy Station/Mornington Range, Western Australia
Died 2008, Derby, Western Australia
I was born Glenroy station and talk Kitja, Andinyin, Ngarinyin and bush English. My own mother and father pass away before I grow up. When I was a little boy I look after donkey mule horse, Tail ‘em around, put on bridle saddle while old people have breakfast. One time I got cheeky relation belong me. He put boot on kick me hard. I was too young to fight him back. I run away and find my grandfathers and grandmothers. Mother side family. They talk Kitja language. We stopped Mornington Range (Warrungadada). I was running wild in the mountain country. Kadia (white people) and police couldn’t find us. Later on I went back to Glenroy Station and worked for mungarti, tobacco, trousers, shirt and blanket. We break in horses, build yards, drove cattle to Derby and Wyndham. Wet season time we had holiday from station job. Walkabout time, visit relation and make ceremony. We walk long way. Might be five, six hundred miles over the country. New generation can’t believe. No-one can do that now.
