Kaleesha Morris
Young Indigenous artist, Kaleesha Morris, is a proud Gumbaynggirr woman from the Clarence Valley in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales (‘NSW’) and a Kulkagal descendant of Naghir Island (Mt. Ernest) in the Torres Strait.
Kaleesha is currently studying an Arts/Law degree at the University of New South Wales and works in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander social justice, having worked with Indigenous peoples and communities throughout Australia, Hawaii, India, The Philippines and the United States of America. Inheriting her mother’s love for Aboriginal art, Kaleesha has grown up painting and sketching and now works primarily with the medium of digital photography, exhibiting a flair for digital and graphic design. She has a strong focus on portraiture work and always seeks to capture and illustrate the beauty, strength and continuation of Aboriginal culture and love for Country.
Kaleesha recently hosted her first solo exhibition ‘Ngarranga nginundi Yuludarla- Remember Your Dreaming’ at the Discovery Rocks Museum in Circular Quay, Sydney, NSW. The exhibition sought to showcase young Aboriginal people’s strong and ongoing connection to Country and culture.
